Was Jesus Crucified in light of the Claims of Muslims?

Surah 4:157-158 states:
"That they said (in boast), 'We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah'—but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not—nay, Allah raised him up unto Himself."
The Quran seems to say that Jews did not crucify Jesus.  Rather the Romans crucified Jesus Christ.  Do Muslims interpret the Quran correctly in attempts to deny the historical and theological implications of the Cross of Jesus Christ?  If the Cross is denied, we have no spiritual salvation or redemption.  It was the wages of sin that took Jesus to His Cross according to His Father's will.  Jesus Himself predicts His death and resurrection in Matthew 17:22-23.  Surah 3:54 also speaks about the death of Jesus but Muslims deny the historical and spiritual value of the Cross.  We ought to stand on the all-trustworthy Scripture in the Bible because it is the infallible Word of God about the Cross of Jesus Christ.
